Our Story

Centigrade was originally established in 1962 as Matamata Refrigeration Services. However, as the business grew and technology within the industry changed, it was realised that the name of Matamata Refrigeration Services was limiting the understanding of the customer as to what Matamata Refrigeration Services actually offered. For example, customers often commented that they did not approach Matamata Refrigeration Services for heat pumps as they were unaware they offered these.

November 2007 the company was rebranded to become Centigrade – temperature control specialists.

The launch of the new brand coincided with a new 0800 CENTIGRADE phone number, the release of this website etc. The message was "same awesome team of people, quality products and excellent service…just a new name”.

In 2021 Centigrade was purchased by Eastside Refrigeration two companies that have competed and worked together for many years. Both companies have grown up together with the younger brother purchasing the older brother. Centigrade is still a Matamata based company with the same office location with staff living and working locally. The extra size to our company has given us more opportunity to provide more to our clients at a better price with on farm solar added to our offerings. Plus we have the ability to deliver larger projects we wouldn’t get involved with while operating like a small local business.
